The Basement of the Swallows

In the heart of the Huasteca Potosina there is a natural abyss known as El Sótano de las Golondrinas – a cave of karstic origin that is 512 metres deep, 60 metres in diameter and 370 metres vertically.

Discovered in 1966, it attracts bird scholars year after year, as they give a beautiful spectacle when they leave the cave at dawn and when they return in the afternoon, when they dive towards the center of the earth.

In addition to camping in its surroundings, you can undertake hikes to the different waterfalls, descend the cave and visit Xilitla, one of the most beautiful tourist sites in Mexico.
