My family stayed at one of our cabin rentals last summer. I know this will sound odd, but it was really the first time I spent a lot of time in one of the cabins, viewing it from the perspective of a guest. I gained a valuable insite which I would like to share with some of you planning a vacation with a family: look for a cabin which can help with entertaining your kids!
- Have room to spread out. The cabin my brothers stayed in was was a 3 bedroom/ 3 bathroom cabin. There were 10 people sleeping in the cabin plus during the day another 8 or 9 people in the cabin. So at times, there were 19 people in the cabin. with the porches and multi-levels, there was plenty of space for everyone to do something and carry on conversations without having to shout over each other.
- Look for cabins with things that your children can entertain themselves with. Many cabins have a pool table, electronic darts, board games, play station, Foosball tables, ping pong, karaoke machines, spa and more for entertaining the children! On days when the parents did not want to go out for an adventure, there was plenty to do for the kids without having to organize something for them to do! This worked so well that some days, the only time we saw or heard from the children was when they had to come upstairs to eat!
- Stay in the cabin and save money! Some of our local businesses won’t like me saying this, but you also came up to the mountains to rest. Often a vacation is spent rushing from activity to activity, event to event, in an effort to get the most out of a vacation. Do you ever get back from a vacation and need a rest from your vacation? Maybe you are trying too hard to keep the children entertained. If there is something inside or outside for them to do at your cabin rental, they will be happy, and you will be happy too because you can get some rest as well. Don’t feel the need to spend every waking moment doing something, sometimes in our busy lives, the thing we need the most is to not be busy.
- Plan a few outside activities. Go ride the train, go shopping, horseback riding, whitewater rafting, fishing, boating, hiking, touring around sightseeing, but you don’t have to do them all! Decide what is the most important things you want to do, and go do them! Then come back to your cabin and rest. Trust me your kids will let you know if they are bored, sitting at the cabin. If they have plenty to do, they will be happy and you will be happy.
Several of our cabins are set up with downstairs gamerooms which will work well for entertaining the children: Laurel Creek, Black Ankle Lodge, Dog Star Cabin, Riverside, and Toccoa Pearl. Take a look at these cabin rentals in North Georgia, and see if they will work for your family!
